| Just a Garage Sale Note:
Thank you for letting us know that you want to participate in the Stoneridge Neighborhood Garage.(8a.m.-3 p.m.)
We will be advertising in the The Herald, Valley Times & the Pleasanton Weekly to promote the event. Please see our map here on our web page with dots posted on those streets of in the number of those participating. Also removable maps with dots attached to the signs on the directional signs at the exterior perimeters of Stoneridge & Highland Oaks.
We will provide directional signs at the end of your street the day of the sale & remove them after the sale. (Tell you friends on other streets, “No call = NO sign/dot!")
We will be stopping by the day of the sale with a map for you of the homes participating in the sale and the prep & safety sheets (unless you are receiving them by email or fax) to keep the day safe & fun. We will also give you the “Goodwill Donation” rules that day, for donations at the end of the day. In addition, we will have bags to use & change to buy if you feel you might run short.
On the day of the sale, all you have to do is open your door at 8 a.m. & start selling. We will stop by during the day to see how things are going (again, with Goodwill sheets, bags & change) Pleasetake note that garage sales promote an increase in auto traffic and that pedestrians. Adults & children alike should take extra care when in the street!
Towards the end of the day (starting at 2:00) there will be a “Goodwill Drop Site" located at Moller Park to accept those items you wish to donate. Please bring the Goodwill Sheet we provided. (See rules to follow) You will be given receipt from Goodwill to use for your write off. It is advisable that you take a picture of those items you will be donating & attach it to your Goodwill receipt at the time of your write off.
Should you have any questions, please e-mail us at: penny@EastBayAreaHomes.com or call 925-931-1600.
We want to thank you in advance for your participation in the sale. And as we do only one mailing to the 500+ homes we invite for the 2 sales a year, (April & September), we rely heavily on word of mouth so TELL YOUR NEIGHBORS & mark your calendars!) And we hope this information helps you to prepare for what we have found to be a fun & profitable day!
And, of course remember, we are in the Real Estate business not the garage sale business, so think about calling us with your Real Estate needs!

Stoneridge Neighborhood Garage Sale Safety Tips!
- For ALL intents & purposes: Your Bathrooms are “Out of Order!” So are your telephones & computers & E-mail systems! Do not make the call or send the message for the person! Direct them to a phone, gas station or Library!
- Run a stringacross the opening of your garage (waist high). This will keep people OUT of the garage & away from those things you DO NOT wish to sell inside the garage! To keep people out while you are setting things up on the driveway in the morning: Run the string/twine from the opening of the garage out to the end of the driveway, across the end, & back to the opening on the opposite side. (also waist high). Do this the night before & you won’t have to be doing it in the morning when you will be busy setting things out on the driveway. Just tell the early bird buyers that you will start selling when you are finished setting up & have removed the driveway string!
- Have plenty of change! (Although we will come around with some to buy)
- Have plenty of plastic/paper bags. (And we’ll bring free bags too)
- Stop those people who step out of their cars with their OWN plastic bags. This will keep them from putting a bunch of your individually priced stuff together (in their bag) & asking you to take ONE PRICE FOR THE LOT! Just nip it in the bud by saying that you will gladly supply them with a bag and that your stuff is individually priced for a reason!
- Watch out for large groups of people getting out of one car. It has been known to be an “on purpose” type of “confusion” to keep you OFF your guard regarding sticky fingers.
- Have someone watching your cash box at all times. You might want to set the cash box table halfway under the string that goes across the opening of the garage. This keeps people a little further away from the box. Or wear a belly bag to make change from.
- Don’t have things for sale setting out in the back or side yards unless you have someone there at all times watching to see that no one inadvertently goes into the house. Its better to lug even the big stuff out to the driveway!
- Let the kids get into the act (& clean out some of their long forgotten stuff at the same time) by having them set out old toys etc, price them themselves, sell them themselves, and make their own money! This will also give you extra sets of eyes & extra sets of arms for watching & toting! Make sure your kids are AWARE that there will be strangers in the area & an increase of auto traffic & that everyone needs to act accordingly!!
- Lastly…HAVE FUN WITH THE SALE! Besides getting rid of a lot of stuff, you’ll be making a little money, and best of all you’ll be meeting a lot of your neighbors and new friends!
Note: If you find the garage sale a success, call/email us & let us know!
If it can be improved upon, let us know that too! Thanks again to all of you for your participation!
Its you that make it a SUCCESS!
